Description
"In a forest behind the Winter Village dwells a herd of magical horses. While aware of humans and their activities, they prefer to live remotely in their snowy paradise.
Hjortensia and Earik felt differently. They shared a burning desire to escape the herd's isolation.
"I want to try arena competitions. I already beat YOU at everything," sputtered Hjortensia around a mouthful of apples. "Watch, I can even eat faster than you."
"Apples are meant to be savored," chided Earik. The gentle giant gazed thoughtfully at his friend. "I long to go on a trail ride."
"We look so different from their horses. What if they don't like us?" asked Hjortensia.
"What if they do?" replied Earik.
"Let's try it," they agreed. They bid their families goodbye, invited their pets Hjart and Nisse along, and followed the aurora borealis to the Winter Village."
Unique Features
Color Changing
The Earik is a magical horse with the special ability to change colors. When the player presses the "h" key or the magic horse icon on the horse's character sheet, the horse will change from its neutral colors to its natural (magic) colors and vice versa. The horse will not change colors during races or while the player is unmounted.
The Sit
Note: The horse must reach level 7 to perform this gait.
Since it shares its model with the Ardennes, the Earik has a special move called the Sit. The animation can be activated by pressing the spacebar, but only when standing still, otherwise the horse will jump instead of performing the move. When the horse sits down, a blue butterfly lands on its nose and then flies away.
Tack
The Earik can wear the following tack.
Bridles | Saddles | Blankets |

Dewclaws
As the Earik is inspired by deer, it has large vestigial toes on its fetlock, known as dewclaws, in its natural coat. These claws and its feathers (long hair covering the horses' cannon and fetlock) make it impossible for the Earik to wear leg wraps or open front boots in the game. Additionally, changing the horse to its natural (non-magic) coat (where the dewclaws are not present) does not make it possible to equip any legwear.
Colors, Pricing, and Location
The Earik is sold for 900 SC and can be purchased during the Winter Festival event in the Winter Village. It comes in one variation.
Note: This horse is released for limited periods of time and is not always in the game.
- Natural color: Caribou
- Neutral color: Silver Grullo
Trivia
- Earik uses the G3 Ardennes model.
- Earik was released as a pair with Hjortensia.
- Earik was released along with a pet gnome called Nisse, which is based on the Scandinavian folkloric creature of the same name.
- While the Earik is described as a stallion/gelding within the in-game description, players can still choose to label the horse as a mare in the customization settings.
- The Earik's magic coat is inspired by Caribou AKA Reindeer (Rangifer tarandus).[3]
- While Caribou vary wildly in size and color with several sub-species varieties, the Earik's thick body-type and coloration most-closely resemble the Svalbard reindeer (Rangifer tarandus platyrhynchus).[4]
- The name Earik is likely a Scandinavian form of the name Eric meaning "ever ruler."[5] It is derived from the Old Norse name Eiríkr, from the elements ei "ever, always" and ríkr "ruler, king."[6]
