Description
" For centuries, Ryume and Keima played a neverending game of shogi in the grand halls of Marchenghast Castle, always in check but never in checkmate. One day, Keima made a surprising suggestion.
"Ume, the echoes have grown too loud, is it not time we stop?”
“I haven’t won yet!” replied the more stubborn Ryume. “Kei, you’re speaking like a mad king.”
But Keima’s curiosity had outgrown her pride and she resigned the game. In different ways they were both longing for something new, so it wasn’t long before they finally set hoof outdoors and found themselves in Jorvik—Ryume intrigued by riders who can match his fire, and Keima excited for exploration.
Deep down, neither counts a resignation as a win, and Ryume especially hopes for a rematch. Turns out their friendly rivalry isn't bound by castle walls."
Unique Features
Color Changing
The Ryume is a magical horse with the special ability to change colors. When the player presses the "h" key or the magic horse icon on the horse's character sheet, the horse will change from its neutral colors to its natural (magic) colors and vice versa. The horse will not change colors during races or while the player is unmounted.
The Extended Trot
Note: The horse must reach level 7 to perform this gait.
While most breeds in SSO only have five gaits, the Ryume has six. This special gait is called the "Extended Trot". In no other horse breed is able to perform the extended trot. To perform the extended trot, the horse must be walking or trotting. The player then must hold down the 'Shift' key and then simultaneously hit either the up arrow or the 'W' key. The Ryume will then begin to perform an extended trot. During the extended trot, the horse cannot move to a faster gait or jump. To stop performing the extended trot, simply slow your horse down like you would with any other.
Dragon Mode
Note: The horse must reach level 7 to perform this move.
The Ryume can perform a special dressage move called Dragon mode. The animation can be activated by pressing the spacebar, but only when standing still, otherwise the horse will jump instead of performing the move. When in their magic coat, the Ryume will breathe fire during this move, however, when in their non-magic form, they will perform the animation but without the fire effect.

Trivia
- The Ryume uses the G3 Friesian model.
- The Ryume released as a pair with Keima.
- While the Ryume is described as male within the in-game description, players can still choose to label the horse as a mare in the customization settings.
- The name Ryume, is a variation of the Japanese word Ryūme, which in and of itself is an additional pronunciation of the Japanese loanword, ryūma or ryōma (龍馬 simplified as 竜馬). It several meanings but two can be directly linked to the lore of Ryume in-game.[5]
- Ryume and Keima have wider mouths in their magic forms that can open much farther than the regular Friesian model, making them the first magic horses to have direct edits made to the original horse model.
- Ryume and Keima replace the Friesian's Canter Pirouette with Dragon Mode, making them the first magic horses to have separate animations from the original horse model. Along with the Nixie, they are the only magic horses unable to perform one of their base model's special animations.
- While Ryume and Keima can both breath fire in their magic forms, they are both based off of Eastern Dragons, which unlike Western Dragons, do not breath fire and are in-fact connected to water as guardians of rivers or weather.[6]
