The chat or messaging of Star Stable Online has five different forms: Say, Friend, Global, Group, and Club Chat. The chat also provides access to character emotes.
- Say Chat: When this chat is used, only the people in the immediate area will see the message. Both Star Riders and non-Star Riders can access this.
- Friend Chat: This chat is used to message a currently online friend. Only that friend can see what is typed. Both Star Riders and non-Star Riders can access this.
- Global Chat: When Global Chat is used, everyone in the game can see what is typed. Only Star Riders can access this.
- Group Chat: This chat is used to message members of a group, and only the people in that group can see the messages. Both Star Riders and non-Star Riders can access this. The maximum number of people allowed in a group is five.
- Club Chat: In Club Chat, messages are sent to the currently online members of the player's club. Both Star Riders and non-Star Riders can access this.
A question mark button in the top right of the chat box provides access to the chat rules.
Trivia
- Global Chat was called Stable Chat in the early stages of the game.
- The reason why Global Chat is exclusive to Star Riders is likely to discourage people from making a new account for the purposes of spamming or trolling in said chat.
- Global Chat was only available when near a stable or other populated place before it was made available everywhere in the game in 2024.
- A chat bubble appears above the character's head when sending a message in all chat channels except Friend Chat.
