Etymology

The name Doreen is of English origin and is a combination of Dora and the name suffix een. Dora is a short form of Dorothy, Theodora, or Isidora. So there are a few different meanings for Doreen's name.

• Dorothy, the shortened form of Dorothea, and Theodora (the feminine form of Theodore) are both the feminine form of the Late Greek name Δωροθεος (Dorotheos), which meant "gift of God" from Greek δωρον (doron) "gift" and θεος (theos) "god".
• Isidora is the feminine form of Isidore which comes from the Greek name Ισιδωρος (Isidoros), which meant "gift of Isis", derived from the name of the Egyptian goddess Isis (Greek form of Egyptian Ist, which possibly meant "the throne") combined with Greek δωρον (doron) "gift".
