Etymology 

The name Hawaii comes from the polynesian name "Hawai'i"however the origin is uncertain. It is hypothesized to be is based on the native Hawaiian word for homeland (Owhyhee)

There are also theories of it being from the Proto-Polynesian hawaiki which possibly means "place of the gods" or from Proto-Polynesian sawaiki "homeland", or possibly named for Hawaiʻiloa, legendary discoverer of the Hawaiian islands.

Trivia

• Just like the rest of her family tree, Hawaii is named after one of the 50 United States of America, her being named after the 50th state of the same name.
