A closeup of a herding lure in the Player's Inventory

Herding lures also called Western lures, are an event item used during the Camp Western Event.

Description

A herding lure as seen in-game

"A lovely bundle of grass and flowers that will persuade even the most stubborn animal to follow you." - Star Stable Online

Appearance

Herding lures appear inside the player's inventory as a bundle of green grass surrounded by a brown rope. It is a stackable object, meaning players can have more than one lure take up a single slot in their inventory.

When outside the player's inventory, herding lures appear as a rolled-up bundle of grass, flowers and clover, tied together with two brown strings and surrounded by a glow and yellow sparkles.

Function

Herding lures are used to get Starshine Ranch's free range grazing horses to follow you back to the pastures. When a player encounters a horse, they simple have to interact with them, trade them the lure and the horse will follow no matter where the player goes. If the player does not have any lures, the horses will not follow.

Note: Herding lures only work on the adult horses hidden around Firgrove during the event. They will not work for Mary's herding animals like chickens, foals, cows, sheep, etc.

The herding lure is a single use item. Once it is used it will disappear from the player's inventory. Additionally, the lure only works on one horse each, thus if the player finds more than one horse, multiple lures will be used up.

How to obtain

Herding lures are obtained during Camp western in multiple ways. They can be found floating around the Firgrove region of Jorvik, by opening Renegade chests, and by purchasing them from Gary's Goods shop for 65 gold nuggets.

Picking up a herding lure around Firgrove will award the player with 50 horse XP for the horse they are currently riding.

Should a player want to sell their herding lures rather than trade them into Gary, they can sell it for 1 Jorvik Shilling each.
