News header announcing the first week of camp western in Star Stable

Camp Western is an event in May, celebrating all things western and offering the player a chance to explore the wilderness.

The event takes place at Starshine Ranch and the surrounding Firgrove area, which means it is only accessible by Star Riders.

History

The first Camp Western event was released in July 2023 for four weeks.[1]

Camp Western returned in 2024, this time in May and for only three weeks.[2] In 2023, the Renegades required 60 Renegade Chests to be opened by the player for the player to get their reward, but this amount was reduced to 40 in 2024. Hiding spots where the wolves will not see the player were also added to the Firgrove wilderness; these are marked by a dark cloud, and the player will be notified when they enter or leave hiding.

The decorations for this event are only in Starshine Ranch. Unlike other events, there are no home stable decorations. The buildings are decorated with multicolored hanging pennants. There are also hanging string lights in the main ranch area.

Quests and Activities

Camp Western offers some exclusive activities to players.

The main event gameplay is venturing into the Firgrove wilderness to find Gold Nuggets while avoiding wolves and bears. Another hostile animal is a bull named Bulgore[3] near the ranch who guards the sheep and donkeys. Gold Nuggets are one of the event's currencies along with Summer Tokens, and are used to obtain helpful items and trade for tokens. Individual pieces of gold are scattered throughout the event area, but finding a gold node and completing a short mining minigame will reward the player with more pieces.

There are three exploration items that the player can use during the event:[4]

  • Beast repellent: This item will be used up if the player gets too close to a predator, making the animal disappear and stop chasing the player. If the player does not have one when this happens, they will be transported back to the ranch. It can be considered an "extra life." They cost 15 Gold Nuggets each at Gary's Goods shop.
  • Herding lure: These lures are used to get the wandering horses to follow the player back to the ranch. Four horses can be found somewhere in the Firgrove area each day. The horses are in the same locations for all players, but the locations change each day. Each lure costs 65 Gold Nuggets at Gary's Goods.
  • Renegade key: These keys are used to unlock Renegade Chests, which contain rewards of items and Summer Tokens. Each day, five chests can be found; they change locations every day, but are in the same places for all players. The keys each cost 100 Gold Nuggets when purchased from Gary.

Each exploration item can be found rarely in the Firgrove area, purchased for Gold Nuggets from Gary Goldtooth, or earned as rewards for completing the daily ranch chore board quests.

There are also some safer activities at the ranch. Every day there are three quests to do at the Chore Board, such as bringing a box of beast repellent to Firgrove Village or finding a lost dog. These quests reward Summer Tokens, Horse XP, and one of the three wilderness items. During the event, completing the ranch races and finding Mary's lost animals also rewards Summer Tokens in addition to their usual rewards.

Gifts and Rewards

The shops at Camp Western

The player can purchase items from the event shops at Starshine Ranch with Summer Tokens. At Gary Goldtooth's store, the player can also buy pet chickens with a large amount of Gold Nuggets. After the player finds and opens 40 Renegade Chests, the Renegade group will give a reward to the player for proving their skills. Additionally, two pets can be obtained by exploring and completing the requirements for them to be interacted with. After the pets are able to be interacted with, the player can trade Summer Tokens, Gold Nuggets, and a quest item that can be found in the area to be able to keep the pet.[5]

Trivia

  • This event is one of the only events that non-Star Riders cannot participate in.
  • For the event, the Global Chat range is extended to cover the entire Firgrove area.
  • The Gold Rush event in May 2020 was similar to this event.
  • Each Gold Nugget collected also rewards 2 Horse XP.
    • For the last week of the event, gold nodes are made more common, and they reward more Gold Nuggets.[6]
  • Lunging debuted as part of 2023's Camp Western.[7] It was later added permanently to the game.
