A renegade chest as seen in-game
Renegade Chests are an event item found during the Camp Western Event.
Appearance
Renegade chests appear as an old-fashioned wood and metal steamer trunk chest with a cowhide top. It is bound with leather straps and has an antique brass lock with a scrap of red fabric around it. When a chest has not been opened, it will be surrounded by white sparkles.
Function
There are five renegade chests hidden around Firgrove each day of the event which must be opened with a Renegade key. When close to a chest, a faint shimmering sound can be heard, indicating it is nearby. When encountering a chest, the player simply has to interact with it, trade in the key and the chest will be unlocked, rewarding the player with items such as more renegade keys, herding lures, gold nuggets, beast repellant or summer tokens. If the player does not have any keys, the chests will not open.
In addition to rewards, opening these chests are part of a questline with Scott Buttergood and his Renegade posse.
Locations
The five renegade chests change locations each day of the week, but they are always located in the Firgrove region of the map.
Note: Josh shows the player a chest during the introductory quests (X: 317 Y: 221). While this chest does not count as one of the five chests for the day, it does count towards the number of chests needed to impress Scott.
