Star Stable Online

Mudskipper appears in the quests where in Emma goes looking for her perfect horse companion. Mudskipper is one of the candidates.

In Emma's search for a horse companion, she learns that Kirsty Griswald is selling a horse. Emma knows from her talks with Kirsty online that she just recently received a couple of mustangs and assumes one of those is the horse she is selling. Emma is taken with the idea of owning a spirited and free Mustang, and takes off with the player to Birk's Grange.

Upon arriving to Kirsty's farm, Emma learns that while Kirsty did receive two mustangs recently, they are just foals and are not being sold. The horse that is being sold, however, is an abandoned Chincoteague pony Kirsty recently rescued and has named Mudskipper, or "Skipper" for short.

Mudskipper when dirty

Emma is, at first, not taken with the trembling horse, noting that since she is covered in dirt and mud that her name is "more of a Muddy..." rather than skipper. At first Emma doesn't even entertain the idea of taking Mudskipper for a ride, she informs Kirsty that she just isn't ready for the responsibility of taking on a horse she believes would be too much work due to her appearance and jumpy personality. She instead chooses to leave for the next horse on her list, who is Silvermane Seraphim.

However, after her ride with Silvermane, Emma comes to the conclusion that she does, in fact, want Mudskipper and she and the player run off to Birk's Grange before Mudskipper can be sold to Junior Buttergood. After cleaning the horse, and tacking her up, she takes her for a test ride noting that "She carries me the way all girls, want to be carried by a horse"! She is also delighted to find that Mudskipper will happily go over jumps.

After her test ride Emma happily accepts Mudskipper as her new riding companion and thanks the player for all of their help.

Etymology

The name Mudskipper is a title given to a species of fish from the family known as the gobies. They are amphibious fish, meaning they can use their pectoral fins to "walk" on land, and are commonly found intertidal wetlands.

Kirsty gives this name to the horse due to her muddy appearance and jumpy nature.

Trivia

  • Mudskipper is the only Chincoteague Pony with a light palomino coat, as the purchaseble Palomino is a darker shade.
