The Pumpkin Hunt is an activity playable during Halloween. It was added in 2019.

Introduction Quest

Upon the character's first visit to Eastglade after the Halloween update (or in the 2022 event, after unlocking the Pumpkin Hunt portal), a cutscene triggers, showing Ydris standing on the edge of a cliff in the Shadowy Hills. A view of the water sprinkler from the pumpkin field follows, capturing the moment as the water turns an ominous purple. Jasper approaches to investigate and witnesses as a sprout awakens. The frightened Sprout rouses a Possessed Pumpkin from sleep, making the Pumpkin face Jasper. The Possessed Pumpkin opens and closes its mouth menacingly, frightening Jasper. As he runs away, three Sprouts jump on the Pumpkin.

After the cinematic, the player can complete a quest showing them the mechanics of the Pumpkin Hunt.

Mechanics

2019-2021

The in-game guide

The mechanics of the hunt are explained in the introduction quest. The player has to seek out a Possessed Pumpkin on one of the five spawn places and interact with it by clicking on it. Upon interaction, the three Sprouts around the pumpkin run off in different directions and a circle of mist forms, setting a boundary of the area where to seek them. They usually hide behind terrain obstacles, such as rocks, fences, trees or bushes, and when the player finds and interacts with a sprout, it will start following them. Once the player collects all three Sprouts, they can approach the Possessed Pumpkin and interact with it. Upon interaction, one of the three following scenarios happens:

• The Pumpkin's top flies off and a Soul Shard is revealed, which is then added into the player's inventory
• The Pumpkin starts pursuing the player and a health bar appears above it. By successfully evading the Pumpkin, the player depletes it, whereas by allowing it to catch them the bar fills back up. Once the health bar is fully depleted, the Pumpkin enters a "sleeping" state, allowing the player to approach it. When interacted with, its top flies off and a Golden Pumpkin is revealed, which is then added into the player's inventory
• The Pumpkin starts running away from the player along with its three Sprouts. To catch it, the player has to interact with it, making it enter a "sleeping" state. When interacted with again, its top flies off and a Soul Shard is revealed, which is then added into the player's inventory

After each pumpkin there is a 20 minute wait period, after the 20 minutes the pumpkin will respawn.

2022

In the 2022 Halloween event, the mechanics stay the same, however only one pumpkin can be found a day. After unlocking the Pumpkin Hunt portal in Galloper's Keep, the player can speak with the pumpkin in front of the portal and accept its quest for a pumpkin to spawn. After completing the activity, going back to the Keep and talking to the pumpkin again will reward the player with Autumn Tokens and XP.

Rewards

The reward vendor at Galloper's Keep

The Pumpkin Hunt rewards Autumn Tokens, which can be exchanged for rewards at Galloper's Keep. Originally, the hunt rewarded Golden Pumpkins, then changed to Soul Shards in 2021, and the following year it was changed to Autumn Tokens. The rewards from the tokens include horse tack, clothing, and items from the Haunted Trail Ride. Randomly, upon completing the hunt, a pet squash may be rewarded.

Trivia

• For the debut week of this event, the spawning intervals were somewhat broken - the first pumpkin's spawning interval was 40 minutes from launching the game instead of 8 seconds. This was fixed during the next week's Wednesday update.
• In the 2021 Halloween event, the pumpkins stopped giving Golden Pumpkins. Instead, they started giving out 3 Soul Shards per pumpkin.
