History

The first formal Rainbow Festival was released in June 2019.[1] This was the first time the event was named, however the Cloud Kingdom was first released by itself in 2018.[2][3]

In August 2018, the Cloud Kingdom was expanded from its original form to its current appearance.[3] Formerly, it was only the Zenith Base Camp island and the large center one.

In June 2022, it received many additions, most notably a new quest in which the colors of the area are removed and the player is tasked with completing various activities to find the Rainbow Crystals to restore the colors one at a time. It also got expanded upon on the main map outside of the Kingdom, with the return of Chaun and his rainbow gold hunting activity and a daily quest.[4]

The festival returned in June 2023, this time for four weeks.[5] It was largely the same as the previous year, but with a new race unlocked through the questline and the addition of Summer Tokens as the main event currency. Two magical horses were added for sale to the Cloud Kingdom, Prisma and Tenebri, which were designed by players through a contest the previous year.

In June 2024, the event returned, but the Cloud Kingdom was removed. The festival was relocated to Fort Pinta and Fort Pinta Beach. The disco and the graphics of the fort itself were updated for the event.[6] It did not have any exclusive quests or races available except for a brief introduction tour. The Serenus and Bronte magic horses were added for sale to the event's new magical horse sale area outside the disco.[7]

The decorations for this event are visible mainly in the settlements and stables on the map. They are rainbow- and cloud-themed, and include balloons, flags, and other miscellaneous decorations. The most decorations are in Fort Pinta, where rainbow balloons and Cloud Kingdom clouds can be seen floating above the main festival area.

There is also a rainbow parade once every hour from Moorland to Fort Pinta Beach, with rainbow-decorated trellis archways over its path, which can be seen even when the parade is not active. At the end of the parade is a party area on the beach.

Quests and Races

The Rainbow Festival had some limited-time quests and races available in former years. With the removal of the Cloud Kingdom, they are no longer available.

The event's main quest line involved Katja and her removing the color from the Cloud Kingdom, turning it grayscale. The player could then completed the festival's activities to restore the colors. Some smaller quest lines were finding Mica Stoneground's lost equipment in the same area and helping Pico the frog find his owner, Mica, in the initial introduction.

There were two races unique to this event: the Rainbow Race in the Cloud Kingdom and Katja's Frozen Fury Race in Moorland). There was also a daily quest activity (finding golden horseshoes scattered around the Cloud Kingdom) which rewarded horse XP but was not a race. There was another daily quest, helping a raincloud reunite with other clouds, which also rewarded horse XP.

Gifts and Rewards

Most of the quests and activities in the event rewarded Summer Tokens, which could be traded for clothes and horse tack. After the Cloud Kingdom's removal, these activities are no longer available, and Summer Tokens are not usable during the event. From finding Rainbow Gold at the end of the Rainbow, which appeared every 30 minutes and stayed for 20 minutes after appearing, rewards could be obtained from trading them to Chaun. Rewards included random items such as junk items from Archaeology, horse XP, café food items, horse food items, Jorvik Shillings, and rainbow-themed set items. They could also be traded once a day for 3 Summer Tokens.

There are shops on Fort Pinta Beach selling limited-time horse tack, clothing, horse bows with various LGBTQ+ flags, and terrier pets.
