The horse market on its permanent spot

Ferdinand's Horse Market was a market owned by Ferdinand and his wife, Eddie. It was located in Moorland, near the Pony Championship and Fort Pinta. Goofy Lars also worked there.

History

The horse market was released March 26, 2014, located at the Jorvik Stables Arena, with three horses (two Friesian Sport horses and an Andalusian) and exclusive gear and tack. At the time, it was hinted the market would be traveling between locations in Jorvik, but the other locations were unknown.[1]

On May 7, 2014, the horse market landed in Fort Pinta and added three more horses (Jorvik Ponies).[2]

On June 4, 2014, the horse market traveled to Steve's Farm and brought with it three Irish Cobs (at the time called Tinker Horses).[3]

On July 2, 2014, the market arrived at its final new location, Cape West Fishing Village, and brought with it two more Irish Cobs. This also marked the day when older horse models started being transferred to the market.[4] More new variations of breeds and tack were added to the market over the years.

The rotation board

On December 27, 2017, a new feature was introduced, allowing users to rotate out the horses by simply clicking on a sign at the marked by two blue horse heads in a circle. By clicking this, the user can change the available horses between different sets if the horse they are looking for is not available in the currently-displayed batch.[5]

On July 17, 2019 the market was placed in a permanent location near Doyle's Abbey. This discontinued the weekly travel feature that the horse market originally had and removed the weekly quests given each week.[6]

On September 12, 2023, the horse market was removed. It was replaced with Marley's Vintage Barn at Marley's Farm.[7] At this point, all Generation 1, 1.5, and 2 horses had been relocated to the Vintage Barn.

Traveling Market

The market's location in Jorvik Stables

The market previously had multiple locations that it would travel to each week: one week it would be open in a location, then the next week it would be closed and setting up in a new location, then it would be open in that location the next week, and repeat. The locations were in the Jorvik Stables Arena, on a boat docked in Fort Pinta, on a boat docked in Cape West Fishing Village, and outside of Steve's Farm.

Permanent Location

In 2019, the market was moved to a permanent location off Fort Pinta Road, near Doyle's Abbey. It stopped traveling around the map and was now open all of the time. Many of the older Generation 1/1.5 and Generation 2 models were moved to the market as well. The clothing and horse tack items that were previously scattered throughout multiple shops were now condensed into one shop, still selling all of the items. The horses could be rotated between the different sets at the board in front of the selling area.

Horses

As of November 8, 2022, there were 91 horse variations and 18 breeds in the market.

Horse Retirement

Retired Gen 1.5 Appaloosas and Akhal-Tekes

In 2022, older (Gen 1/1.5 and 2) horses started to be retired and removed from the game.[8] Players who purchased one before their removal can still keep and use them, however they will not receive any more work or bug fixes. As of the market's move to the Vintage Barn, the following horses had been retired from the market:

Trivia

  • The Gen 1.5 Appaloosas and Akhal-Tekes, the first of the retired market horses, were accidentally removed a week early. They returned the following week and stayed for two more weeks to make up for the lost time.[17]
  • Some horses appeared in multiple sets. It is unknown if this was intentional or an error.
  • The retiring horses were often moved to the small pen area at the front of the market in the update where their retirement is announced.
