Description
"Make way for the Friesian! Hailing from the Netherlands, Friesians are renowned throughout history as powerful workhorses and bold medieval warriors.
Friesians are known for their high-set necks, animated gaits, and powerful legs. With such a striking aura, they are ideal for dressage and starring on the big screen.
Jorvik has utilized Friesians as farm horses since the 19th century. However, they gained prestige when descendants of Jorvik royalty became interested in the breed. By re-establishing them as heroic steeds, Friesians in Jorvik are reminders of the gallantry of the Middle Ages.
With a Friesian as your friend, you’ll ride with the bravery of a knight and the elegance of royalty."
Unique Features
The Extended Trot
Note: The horse must reach level 7 to perform this gait.
While most breeds in SSO only have five gaits, the G3 Friesian has six. This special gait is called the "Extended Trot". To perform the extended trot, the horse must be walking or trotting. The player then must hold down the 'Shift' key and then simultaneously hit either the up arrow or the 'W' key. The G3 Friesian will then begin to perform an extended trot. During the extended trot, the horse cannot move to a faster gait or jump. To stop performing the extended trot, simply slow your horse down like you would with any other.
The Canter Pirouette
Note: The horse must reach level 7 to perform this move.
The G3 Friesian can perform a special move called the Canter Pirouette. The animation can be activated by pressing the spacebar, but only when standing still, otherwise the horse will jump instead of performing the move.

Trivia
- The Friesian gets its name from the province of Friesland (also known as Frisia) in the Netherlands, where the breed originated.[17]
- Friesians have extremely strict breed regulations and as such, they do not come in any other color except black with minor exceptions for markings such as a small star on the forehead (or marks from age/injury/birdcatcher), but this is undesirable and actively discouraged from being bred into lines.[18] Any other colors can only be found in Friesian Sport Horses, Jorvik Friesians (in the game), Friesian crosses, and part-breeds.[19][20]
- Chestnuts can be registered into American registries, provided lineage can be traced back to a qualified stallion. The American Registry also allows for more substantial white markings.[21]
- Friesians were the first horses to be given an updated model (Gen 2) and new animations in SSO. Counting the Jorvik Friesian as a Friesian update, they were also the first horse to be updated again after already having a G3 version.
- When Frida Frog was added to the game on May 1st, 2019, there was a bug with G2 Friesians. If the player equipped leg wraps on them, they would turn invisible, and only their manes and tails would show. This has since been fixed.
- Switching to the button braids with braided tail hairstyle is free for the G3 Friesians (in addition to the default style). Some of the variations have the button braids by default to show the face markings.[22]
- The Jorvik Friesian was originally intended to be an update for both the G2 Friesian and G2 Friesian Sport Horse, but feedback on the breed led to the Friesian being updated again with a focus on studbook-approved colors and markings and a "regal and elegant" personality.[11][22] The Jorvik Friesian is considered to be a separate crossbreed, unique to the island, that has a more "quirky" personality compared to the Friesian.[15]
