Description

"The KWPN (Koninklijk Warmbloed Paardenstamboek Nederland)—commonly known as the Dutch Warmblood — is a sport horse bred to dominate the competition circuit. This relatively young breed has won medals and highest marks at the Olympics, the FEI World Equestrian Games, and the Jorvik Equestrian Festival.

Dressage riders will thrill at the chance to perform an extended trot and the Piaffe–a highly collected, cadenced, elevated diagonal movement giving the impression of remaining in place–with the Dutch Warmblood.

Anne von Blyssen, Jorvik’s elite dressage competitor, explains that the traits that make the breed an excellent sport horse—a calm temperament, intelligence, curiosity, power, and elegance—also make it a good companion for any rider.

Bond with your own Dutch royal and start prancing!"

Unique Features

The Extended Trot

Note: The horse must reach level 7 to perform this gait.

While most breeds in SSO only have five gaits, the G3 Dutch Warmblood has six. This special gait is called the "Extended Trot". In no other horse breed is able to perform the extended trot. To perform the extended trot, the horse must be walking or trotting. The player then must hold down the 'Shift' key and then simultaneously hit either the up arrow or the 'W' key. The G3 Dutch Warmblood will then begin to perform an extended trot. During the extended trot, the horse cannot move to a faster gait or jump. To stop performing the extended trot, simply slow your horse down like you would with any other.

The Piaffe

Note: The horse must reach level 7 to perform this move.

The G3 Dutch Warmblood can perform a special dressage move called the Piaffe. The animation can be activated by pressing the spacebar, but only when standing still, otherwise the horse will jump instead of Piaffe.

Trivia

  • The Gen 3 Dutch Warmblood is the second horse breed to have its special move be the Piaffe. The first being the Lusitano.
    • While the Lusitano moves forward when performing the Piaffe, the Gen 3 Dutch Warmblood stays in place.
  • According to SSO's Instagram, the top three most purchased coats on the day of release were the Chestnut, Dapple Grey, and Liver Chestnut.[10]
  • The Gen 3 Dutch Warmblood's special gait, the extended trot, is performed incorrectly. When the horse's forelimb moves forward, it strikes out, causing a showy "toe flicking" motion. This indicates there is no connection or engagement through the hindquarters and the horse is simply just throwing out its limbs, cutting its stride short and forcing it to overcompensate when it brings its leg back down to maintain balance.[11] In addition to this, it is also damaging to the horse's leg and back. During the flick, the fetlock muscles become relaxed and cannot brace for impact with the ground leading to the horse bending it too deeply.[12] The motion causes full body tension, especially in the broad back muscle leaving no room for relaxed open shoulder movements required for a harmonious gait.[13] This has led to increased concussive impact on the limbs and a sharp rise in leg injuries in sport horses.[14]
