Description
"Rainy autumn days give way to soggy and cold nights. This is when the Antheia arrive, like mushrooms magically growing overnight, from their ancient forest home in north west Jorvik.
Druids who watch over the wild horses of Jorvik are unsure how these autumn unicorns came to be, speculating a strange mixing of fairy, druid, and nature magic changed the native wild horses into something mystical. Whatever their origins, they now emerge as a sure sign of autumn, lingering in the dark and wet places of Jorvik. Some legends even say the Antheia cause fallen leaves to decompose and mushrooms to grow while encouraging the night to last just a little bit longer by keeping the moon and stars company with their glowing. Be it in caves, wetlands, during rain showers, or night time, anywhere mushrooms thrive is rumored to be a place Antheia might be found. More than one rider has encountered these unicorns on the Light Ride in Golden Hills Valley among the glowing mushrooms.
The Antheia are cool to the touch, solemn and observant as they wait to see what happens next. Despite the cold appearance they tend to be warm and cozy with their friends. Whether in their true magical colors or in disguise, they ride like the Haflingers they resemble."
Unique Features
Color Changing
The Antheia is a magical horse with the special ability to change colors. When the player presses the "h" key or the magic horse icon on the horse's character sheet, the horse will change from its neutral colors to its natural (magic) colors and vice versa. The horse will not change colors during races or while the player is unmounted.
Colors, Pricing, and Location
The Antheia is sold for 450 SC. It can only be purchased after completing the quest from the "Hemera and Antheia's Destiny" node in the Path of Whimsy. After earning its trust, it can be purchased in Valedale Village.
- Natural Color: Dark green body with green in mane and tail, pink mushrooms in hair, Blue-pink wings on back and curved horn, and pink runes on legs.
- Neutral Color: Liver Roan
Trivia
- The Antheia uses the G3 Haflinger model.
- The Antheia was released as a pair with Hemera.
- The Antheia, like most other Magic horses, cannot have its hairstyle changed.
- The name Antheia, Greek Ἄνθεια (Antheia), is derived from ἄνθος (anthos) meaning "flower, blossom." This is the name of one of Charites, or Graces, of Greek mythology who was the goddess of vegetation, gardens, swamps and flowery wreaths. She was especially worshipped in Spring. [8]
- Ironically, despite the goddess typically being associated with Spring, the Antheia in SSO is associated with Autumn. [4]
- The Antheia appears to take inspiration from the Qilin ([tɕʰǐ.lǐn]; Chinese: 麒麟) AKA Kirin (Japan and Korea), Gilin (Thailand), and Kỳ lân (Vietnam) which is a Unicorn-like creature from many Asian mythos. [9]
- The scale-like leaves on its back and curved horn with split tip are common attributes to the creature.
